Big time story - worth reading

I want to share a story with you today. I seriously want you to pay attention, because I know you've been down this road one way or another. This is about one of my clients, Jesse Sosa. He's a real person, with his own struggles and issues, starting with his weight.

The day I met this guy I knew by the look in his eyes that he was serious about his plan for life. He wanted to live and needed help to get it done. Though as he says, he had tried everything you can imagine, nothing had worked (and whatever did temporarily almost killed him) and so he was frustrated and depressed but not about to give up. And I'm glad he didn't...

During the last 12 months he's lost 19% body fat, over 100 pounds and lost 12 inches off his waist line. Talk about a transformation!!!

Although he still has a long way to go, I want you to read personally what this journey has meant for him… This is his story as he wrote it in a letter to me.

"My name is Jesse M. Sosa.  Since childhood I have struggled with weight problems.  I have tried every diet and every diet pill that you can name.  Some worked temporarily, but eventually had consequences and the weight came back.  Around 1986, I lost weight to about 200 pounds.

Jesse at 303
On the outside I looked great, but the weight loss was not attained in a healthy manner and it almost cost me my life.  I was taking some diet pills which affected my vital organs.  I was very fortunate not to have permanent damage and have checked out to be healthy, but nonetheless overweight.

In 2009 my weight topped to an all time high of 414.  I was wearing clothes 5X and my waist was 60, and my body fat measured at 60, really un-measurable, way over the morbid fat count.  I knew that I had to do something different, if I wanted my quality of life to change. It was not easy, and I knew it would not be overnight.  I had to realize that I had not become overweight overnight and that it would take making changes for life that would help me attain my goals. I make short term goals in route to my ultimate goal.

One of the most important changes I had to make were my eating habits.
I was eating once a day and not the proper foods. Although I worked with fruits and vegetables, these were not part of my diet, ever!! I had to learn to say no to a lot of foods which were not allowing me to lose weight (Not easy).  I had to learn to eat smaller meals throughout the day. The portion sizes had to change.

Another change I made, was realizing that I had to get out of my comfort zone and get to exercising.  I had to realize that just because my work requires long hours, that this did not replace an exercise regime. I knew I had to surround myself with positive and supportive people who would encourage me to continue with my plan for life.

This is when I met fitness coach, Eduardo Lorenzo at the gym. He took the time to explain the value of proper nutrition and also about proper supplementation, and how these combined with a solid exercise program would help me lose weight, body fat and get control of life again. Ed works with me with my exercise regime and modifies the exercises and routines as required.  He’s been very supportive and encouraging.

Since working with Ed, (about 12 months) my weight has dropped from 414 to 303 as of December 2010.  My waist size is at 48 (down from 60). I am wearing 2X clothes  (down from 5X) and my body fat is at 41 (down from 60%).

I reached my short term weight loss of 100 pounds in one year by December 2010.  I realize that I still have a long way to go in order to reach to my ultimate goal.  I know I will achieve my goal in a safe and healthy way by staying with my plan and with the help of my fitness coach Eduardo Lorenzo. I cannot stress enough the difference Ed has made in my plan for life."

- JESSE M. SOSA
..................................

I've been fortunate to have met Jesse, he's a real great guy and cares for his life and those around him. Seeing first hand some of the struggles he has faced and how together we've been able to overcome many things; reinforces the primary reason as to why I am who I am and do what I do.

Just like everyone else along this journey he's gotten depressed, tired and fatigued at different stages. But as I constantly remind him "its about the bigger picture" and looking back I'm glad we've been able to stir the boat back on its course. I'm looking forward to the next several months as we continue to work on the next stage of his plan for life! I'll try to get more pictures of his before and and after and update this post with his success along the way...

Guys and ladies seriously, if you've got some fat to lose, excess weight, are unhealthy and you know you've been down that road before STOP wasting your time and money on fad diets, phony programs and phony trainers that don't produce body and life changing results.

25% OFF FITNESS COACHING - NEW YEAR- - NEW YOU!

Each year once January hits every single business including fitness clubs, hand out a New Year's special deal. And it works because many people (especially those who set goals and resolutions to lose weight, be fit and healthy) join gym's, or buy many fitness gadgets and start whatever type of diet.

The sad part is that most of these folks invest a lot of money at times and end quitting half way through whatever program they are doing. Many even stop going to the gym after 4 or 5 weeks.

My friend Desmond wrote an article that said "who's to blame?".  Perhaps certain places could do more to motivate folks to continue the fitness trend and not give up... But you know in the end it's our own fault, we live in a society of lazy people - period!

Don't get me wrong even I enjoy a great discount! However a "discount" shouldn't be the reason people should wait in order to start their fitness journey. Could you imagine having to wait for toilet paper to be at a discount rate for you to finally buy some.... I mean, think of all the complications.... Your motivation is be clear and you don't wait, right? In a weird way - I want you think of your overall fitness conditioning the same.

Listen even if you can't afford a gym, a fitness coach or to buy some sort of equipment you can still be active, any exercise is always better than no exercise. You can even use your own body weight as your biggest tool!!!
And that is one of the corner stone of my Strength & Conditioning Ladies Boot Camp program.

You must have a desire for life. I personally work with people who truly want to better their fitness and well being.

I don't like to sign up a new training client or boot camp member that will not show up or constantly skips training sessions. If I charge you for my services I want for both of us to make the best of it, and that means I need to coach you!!!!

What I do is use the latest trends in fitness to provide you quality fitness & nutrition coaching. I invest my time, knowledge, dedication and everything I've got to help you achieve results. But I require you to invest your time, hard work, commitment and discipline in order to get the results wanted.

The bottom line…  FITLORENZO offers the best service at the fairest price.

And I wold dare to say that FITLORENZO is an incentive based fitness program. The incentive to apply yourself to my program is results.

So with that in mind I guess the obvious thing to do now is to offer a New Year’s special (hahaha)…

If you join any FITLORENZO program, I will give you, at no extra cost, a new level of fitness and health.  I will give you a new perspective on what you are capable of.  Along with all that, you get a less flabby a** and possibly, if you set your mind to it, a great set of abs this year.

My twist to the New Year’s Special?  Stick with my program for the first six months and we’ll celebrate your success with you in July with a special gift just for you.

Also save 25% OFF any 1-on-1 Fitness Coaching Program

2011 Goals

I started looking at my last year post on 2010 New Year's Resolutions and noticed that I was able to accomplish a few of them but still need to work on others.

However just like in 2009, 2010 brought its own changes and challenges. I started www.fitlorenzo.com (finishing touches on my website soon) and I've continue to surround myself with influential people, especially those who make me a better person. For a while things where not going according to plan... but I kept it together and here we are.

So just like everyone I reflect on the events that occurred over 2010 and my plans for 2011. I'll share a few with you, I only hope you share yours with me as well...
  • My conditioning is through the roof and I say this with some caution, cause I've been nursing some injuries and problems in my left shoulder joints almost all year. However that hasn't stopped me from being the best that I can be and performing at a high level; even when most people would think that its ok... I have been able to continue.
  • That being said I'm smarter now (thanks to the advice of people smarter than me of course) and I've taken measures to alleviate the pain, discomfort and set myself in a course to being better.
  • Last year I wanted to lose 3% body fat and I did and I gained it back... it sucks! But I keep things real. So this year goal is to lose and keep them gone those 3% body fat down to 10% BABY!!!
  • I wanted to make a trip and I did... back to my home town in Puerto Rico. I had so much fun it should be illegal. I met new people, made friends and spent quality time with my family and closets friends!!!!
  • However I didn't make it to Yankee stadium nor did they get to the world series.....
  • Last year goal was to start twittering and I did... this year goal is to have my website www.fitlorenzo.com up and running.
  • I've been able to help and make a difference in not one person rather many and that is truly what makes me happy.
  • At the same time many people have made a difference in my life and that has enriched mine. I love to surround myself with people who are better than me, more loving, caring & smarter... I learn so much from them :-) as Ken Blanchard said: "none of us is as smart as all of us"...
  • I always want to spend more time with friends and family.
  • I want the challenge....
  • And if there is something I learned in 2010 is that if you want to accomplish anything you must be willing to kick your own ass. It's that simple; take the easy road and you'll get what you put into it... do it the right away and you'll be blown away at your own potential.
I'm a person of action and I preach that to everyone who surrounds me and/or is my client. However at times it is proper we sit back and practice reflective thinking; so we can learn from failure or success and become wiser in the process.

"Some people spend more time planing their vacation time than planing their lives"... its sad but that's the truth. So use reflective thinking to help yourself become more efficient now and tomorrow; to maximize your strengths and become the better version of you. There is no way you can't achieve the body of your dreams... unless you actually don't want to. The choice is yours!

That's my line of thinking... I would love to hear your stories, what you've learned over the past year and what you plan to get done on this one.

However I'll leave you with this thought: "What's the point of having dreams and setting goals if you are not going to make them happen?"

2011 HERE WE GO!!!!

How bad do you really want it?

Have you ever wonder if you ever really give your best? Do you find yourself always trying to find a reason to motivate yourself? Do you truly believe you can and will win the battle for fat loss and definition?
Do you want to live your life to the fullest of just half way?

At times while training ladies at my Strength & Conditioning Boot Camp, several have mentioned that when we are running or doing a few drills why don't I tell them we are close to the finish line or that soon time will be up.

To be honest I do depending on the type of drills, exercises & metabolic circuits we are conducting; especially when they are based on time. However sometimes I don't and it's not without a purpose.

See there's a point when we are challenged that our bodies or our mind feels as if it wants to give up, it's only human. I however don't want the people I train nor myself to give up at a certain point when we can go further, do more and beat all odds.

The question is how bad you want it? And to what extent you will go in order to achieve excellence?

The following video is taken from the movie Facing the Giants. My coach Desmond, brought it to my attention while I was in Puerto Rico this past week. And we both share the same passion and vision to help everyone we can look good, feel good and be in optimal conditioning.

After viewing it reflect on the late Jim Valvano's (legendary North Carolina State basketball coach and ESPN commentator and founder of the www.jimmyV.org V Foundation for Cancer Research) words: "Don't give up, don't ever give up"...

New Year Fitness Resolution Part 2

2011 New Year's Fitness Resolution... seems like every time January comes along it becomes the best time of the year. People of all sorts start making resolutions, their attitude is up-lifted, and we start making promises as if January is that month where there is a special "reset" button one can press and magically you feel as if you can do anything and become everything you've always wanted to be.

Personally I have witness, that after a while most people lose enthusiasm and all of those resolutions seem to fade as time goes, and it then becomes the next year resolutions or something completely forgotten.

Why is it that we keep doing this to ourselves? Lasting changes take time, it won't happen overnight. To make real changes in our lives, one must take a good look in the mirror. And while we look at ourselves, we must try to look deeper, not only our physical aspect but who we really are and what we want out life. Are you happy with your current ways? Are you happy with you career choices? Are you in control of your life and have a good grip on your relationships (being romance, business, family, friends, YOURSELF, etc)?

Once you set these things in place you can then make a serious commitment for change and personal improvement. But if you have a bad attitude towards life and fitness you have already set yourself for disappointment. For example most people tend to use to many negative thinking as a way to justify things. Have you heard yourself say one of the following:

- I don't have time
- It cost too much
- I'm too busy
- I have kids
- Exercise is painful
- I have no clue what to do
- Exercise is boring
- I hate cardio
- I need to think about it
- I've tried many diets before and failed
- I lost the weight but gained it back

All of these negative ways of thinking can seriously kill your chances of achieving success. Honestly for how long do you think you can keep yourself within a certain fitness program, before you find ways to get out of it and quit?

There is no reason why you can't do this, anyone can; granted at a different pace.

Through my professional experience I've seen people with kids, sometimes with 2 jobs, family responsibilities, single, married, busy, with some knowledge of fitness and others with no clue whatsoever as to what to do. However there is a group that stick to their program and then there are others that don't. Some folks say, we'll it's easy for them; excuse me???? EASY??? I don't think so, the difference between the successful ones and those who quit always comes down to commitment. These folks don't refuse to eat unhealthy foods, and skip on dessert just because one day they woke up and suddenly quit... rather they have chosen to live! And some of their decisions don't come easy, they may look simple... but they are not easy.

I've said it before crappy food leads to crappy bodies. And a crappy lifestyle will lead to a crappy life, it's just that simple. Even when circumstances change that doesn't relieves you from your responsibility. If you make a promise to yourself you must keep it no matter what.

Don't get me wrong, there are days when the alarm goes off and you are hit with the dilemma should I hit snooze button or get up and do what I'm supposed to do (I've been there many times). The decision will be based on how strong your desire for excellence is. How strong your sense of commitment, and will power is. What is your vision , your goals and how bad you want it.

And to set an example think of many athletes. Bob Costas was quoted saying "champions don't become champions in the field - they are merely recognized there". Whatever you see on TV, the Olympics or another sports game its the result of time while in training mode. When I see someone perform at a high level I'm most impressed not at the end result, rather the journey with struggles, failures, sweat, pain, desire, passion and how discipline they must be to their work ethics and training program. They have developed the qualities that defines their character through hard work, caring for their bodies, eating well, and doing the small things right.

We do not need to be professional athletes to take care of our bodies, eat well, exercise regularly, rest enough, drink water and think positive.

All you need to do is believe in yourself. If you can dream it, you can achieve it. Like the Nike slogan says: just do it! Don't wait for tomorrow, or someday to get started. Don't wait for the perfect time neither cause it'll never come. As I'm writing this I got a text message from one of my training clients and she was so excited cause she was able to fit into a gown she hadn't for a while and since she started her journey to a better self, she's had to make four extra holes in her belt! Reading it I felt like WOW!! It reinforces the message in this article.

Today is the the day you should decide to make yourself better. So use your New Year Fitness resolutions, not as some words you'll toss at a party or brag about with your friends. Make it real and make it permanent.

Dedicated to your success and to a higher level of fitness!
